New ballot opened for the HL7 Europe Common Cancer Data Model
Brussels, 24 June 2026 – HL7 Europe opened today a ballot for the HL7 Europe Common Cancer Data Model (1.0.0-ballot). The Model provides a common conceptual and logical information model for representing cancer-related data in the European context.
This ballot represents the first Standard for Trial Use (STU1) release of the specification. The relevant links:

https://jira.hl7.org/ - Cast vote:
https://confluence.hl7.org/x/lwXpGw - Ballot period:
1 July – 31 August 2026
The primary focus of this ballot is the conceptual and logical models. Reviewers are encouraged to evaluate the information model, its structure, semantics, and suitability for supporting interoperable cancer data across clinical care, research, and secondary use.
To illustrate the applicability of the model, the guide also includes example implementations based on HL7 FHIR and OMOP. These implementation artifacts are provided for informative purposes only, demonstrating how the common model can be realized using different implementation technologies. They are not the primary subject of this ballot.
HL7 Europe welcomes comments from the entire community via HL7 Jira (instructions are available below), but per HL7 statutes only HL7 Europe affiliates may cast official ballot votes. Designated voting members are the HL7 Europe Technical Network Team (TNT) members, or the national affiliate chair (or their deputy) if a country is not represented in the TNT.
