EEHRxF

The February 2019 Commission Recommendation on a European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (2019/243) set out a framework to develop principles, specifications and a process to achieve secure, interoperable, cross-border access to, and exchange of, electronic health data in the Union.

The EHDS regulation, expected to take effect in late 2024, makes compliance with the EEHRxF mandatory for some industries.

Therefore a lot of eyes are now on the EEHRxF.  What is it, where can I learn more, what do I need to comply? The details are being worked out in EU-funded initiatives convening the SDOs (including HL7 Europe) and other stakeholders.  The XpanDH project from 2023 to 2024 has been piloting and refining the EEHRxF in specific adoption sites. The xShare project has been building on XpanDH’s activities, and is developing a European Standards and Policy Hub as a one-stop shop for relevant specifications.
